Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I have to be 21 to buy Deane’s Kombucha?
The Kombucha industry was forever changed in 2010 when Federal Government testing revealed alcohol levels over .5% in most commercial brands. While other brands “reformulated,” Deane’s acquired the necessary licensing to sell our delicious Kombucha just as it is: living, raw, effervescent, and with an alcohol content of around 2.5% by volume. Even though Deane’s is still the same Kombucha it’s always been, it is now legally classified as an alcoholic beverage. So don’t forget your I.D!
What is that stuff sitting at the bottom of the bottle?
This "stuff" is especially noticable in our Ginger Matcha Cherry flavor. After a period of open fermentation in toasted oak barrels, our brew undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle, to which we add small amounts of organic fruit juices and other ingredients to create our various flavors. As the second fermentation progresses in each bottle, a sediment forms on the bottom. This sediment is not harmful, and may be reincorporated, if you wish, by gently tipping the bottle upside before you drink it. Alternatively, you can pour 2/3rds of the bottle into a glass, then swirl the remainder until the sediment is mixed in.
